Offering All To God Requires Total Trust In His Wisdom

We have finally arrived in our new place with lots of unpacking to do, after many months of boxing up the same items to prepare for the relocation process. After 39 years of marriage and raising four children in the same home, we have too much stuff!

Moving from your lifelong hometown to a new place can be like a story out of scripture, especially when you desire to follow Jesus.  In Matthew chapter 8, one of the scribes tells Jesus that he wants to follow him wherever he goes. Jesus tells the would be follower: "Foxes have dens and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." Jesus was making it clear that to walk with purpose – offering everything to God – would require a little sacrifice, very few material belongings, and complete trust in God.

Anonymity is a word we do not hear very often. In the world we live in people seek notoriety and fame. I found out very quickly that when you move out of your comfort zone to a new environment – to a place where no one really knows your name – you become somewhat inconspicuous. After living in the same town all you life, where everyone knows everything about you, becoming nameless is challenging. To add to the obscurity, in the process of moving we have not had Internet access or television for more than three weeks.  Being disconnected and removed from all that is familiar is different. I must admit the change is refreshing.

God never changes!  Our relationship with Him is rock solid and lasts an eternity. We were designed to live in union with God, and He knows us better than we know ourselves. Children depend on their parents for everything. Jesus tells us to be like little children and depend on God the Father.  When this happens, you witness the Presence of God in your life to all who are watching. You realize that following Jesus is about more than where you lay your head to sleep. It does not require monumental tasks, but ordinary things in daily life.

Unlike the scribe who physically walked with Jesus, we do not have the Incarnate Son of Man preaching to us in our streets – but the Holy Spirit will use you to bring the ministry of Jesus alive. If you are open to His guidance, and this obedience gives you notoriety, then you are truly blessed!  You are never truly alone or inconspicuous because the love of God is always with you. Amen!
