Instagram

"Instagram is an app your child might have on his/her electronic device (i-pod, phone, i-pad) that allows him/her to share pictures and text with his/her “followers," writes Theresa Berendes, principal at Resurrection School in Evansville.

"After talking with many of our students this week, they are using this app much more than Facebook. When polling a group of students this week, 75 percent of them had a Facebook account with 93 percent of these students had their parents as 'friends' on their Facebook account.

"This same group, 65 percent of them had Instagram accounts. Of these same students, they stated that none of their parents were 'followers' of this account of theirs. Please continue to have open discussions with your children about these accounts and what is appropriate to post and how to respond to posts. Please consider being a 'follower' for your child’s Instagram account."

Food drive

Members of the second grade religious education class won the food drive efforts at St. John the Evangelist Church in Daylight, according to Jeff Simpson, Knights of Columbus grand knight.

"The drive was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 14659 at St John. Over 1,000 pounds of food items were donated to St. Vincent DePaul.  The second grade class brought in over 120 items and was rewarded by the Knights with a milk and donut party."
