The Holy Spirit in our lives

“As we reflect on our lives, how is the Holy Spirit active in our lives?” asks Father John Brosmer, pastor of the Catholic community parishes of North Spencer County.

Can you recall some extraordinary event where the impossible became possible? How did that happen? Was it your own doing or did you give the credit to some divine power? Perhaps you rose above your limitations.

“For me, the Holy Spirit certainly was involved in those experiences. Christ is going to help us on the journey, but can we count on the gifts of the Holy Spirit? It really takes an act of faith to move out of our comfort zone, so the Holy Spirit can work in our lives.”

He added, “Change does create some anxiety because of the fear of the unknown. That is when we count on God to help, and, as a result, the Spirit is working in our lives. If we want the Holy Spirit to help us, then we have to move out of the way and let the Holy Spirit lead us.”

Anniversaries of ordination

Father Robert Nemergut, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood April 22, 1977.

Father Eugene Schroeder, pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Vanderburgh County, was ordained to the priesthood April 27, 1979.

Writing award

Mater Dei junior Valerie Muensterman has been awarded the Hoosier Creativity award by the Central and Southern Indiana Region of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her humorist essay “Reward My Thirst.”

Happy birthday!

Roberta Burch, parish catechetical leader at St. John Parish, Loogootee, celebrates her birthday April 24.

Math-a-thon

St. Benedict Cathedral School in Evansville has collected over $78,000 over the past 20 years for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This year the third and fourth graders raised nearly $6,000.

The top fundraisers were third grade students Reegan Siewert who raised $700 and Grant Gicale who raised $310.
