Name, Parish, Role in Parish: I am Donna Bradley. I live in Washington, Ind., with my husband Jeff and our younger children, Marisa and Noah.  Our older children are married with families of their own – Amber McRoberts and her husband Justin and daughter Maiya, and our son Joshua Grove, his wife Brittany and their daughters Isabella and Piper.  I am the Parish Catechetical Leader for St. Peter Parish in Montgomery, Ind..

How was your faith formed? I was baptized as an infant and raised Catholic. My parents and grandparents were strong Catholics, and instilled their beliefs in me.  Our family has always led an active role in our parish life. I have been a member of St. Peter Parish all of my life.

Who or what has been a big influence in your life? My parents and grandparents. Following their example has kept me faithful in the Church, even when it wasn’t easy.  Their everyday life has been an example of what it means to be a Catholic Christian.

What do you do in your role as a parish catechetical leader? I teach religious education classes to students in grades 1-5 during release time from the public school.  I prepare second grade students to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.   I also teach Confirmation class to high school students and sponsor the Youth Group.

Who do you consider to be positive role models today? I think we can always look to the saints as positive role models. No matter their hardships or station in life, they kept their eyes and hearts on God.

Describe a time when you have experienced God’s presence in your life? When I met my husband, I felt God gave me who I needed when I needed him most in my life. The births of my 4 children – looking at each of my children (and grandchildren) for the first time – I could only marvel at the miracle of life and what a gift from God each of them are to me and our family.

What are your dreams for parish faith formation today? I would like to see family involvement grow in our religious education program.  Classes held during school time limit the involvement of the family, and I would like to offer more opportunities for family catechesis.

How do you nurture your faith life? Daily prayer and participating in bible study.  I also try to attend any educational programs offered by the diocese for Parish Catechetical Leaders.  We should never stop learning, “School is never out for the pro!” The more I learn about my Catholic faith, the more I realize how little I know.

What makes being a Catholic so important to you? Without my Catholic faith, I would not be who I am; it is as much a part of me as any other aspect of my life.

What is your best wisdom on life? Love God above all things and love your neighbor as yourself.

What is a scripture quote that you would like to share? One of my favorite quotes is not from scripture, but attributed to St. Francis and his way of life, “Preach the Gospel every day, and when necessary, use words.”   I try to always remember these words and to remind myself that our actions speak loudly. People often remember what we do, above what we say.
