Catholic Charities Relocating

By Tim Lilley, The Message Editor

As part of its strong, continuous-improvement effort to better serve the greater Evansville community, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Evansville will relocate its office to the second floor of the Deaconess VNA Plus building at the corner of Walnut and Garvin streets in Evansville, effective July 1. The organization has occupied office space in the Court Building, at the corner of Fourth and Vine streets downtown, since its inception in 1937.

“We are grateful to have carried out our mission in the Court Building for 78 years,” Catholic Charities Director Sharon Burns said in announcing the move. “It became apparent to us, however, that the agency needed more space in a different location because we lacked classroom space and wanted to improve ease of access to our offices.”

Burns said the Deaconess VNA Plus building’s location is more convenient, and provides space more consistent with Catholic Charities’ programs and services.

"More than a decade ago we began expanding services beyond just adoption and counseling services to clients” she explained.  “In the past two years alone, we have added immigration services and low-income-housing assistance to our menu. We also announced the kickoff of our Boots4Work program on May 7.  Each year we assist over 7,500 people for a variety of services.

"Our goals,” Burns added, “include enabling families to work – helping to build strong families through counseling and family enrichment; and helping families work through our Neighbor-to-Neighbor, English-language classes and Boots4Work efforts.  Our new location enables us to house these strong programs and add more."

“We are excited to share space in our building with another long-standing agency that is dedicated to taking care of and bettering its communities through a variety of services,” said Gloria Horton, executive director of Deaconess VNA Plus. “Catholic Charities’ mission to assist individuals and families in ‘living a fuller life’ marries perfectly with Deaconess VNA Plus’s mission to help individuals live well wherever they call home.”

Burns said Catholic Charities will maintain its current locations in Jasper, Princeton and Vincennes. The Evansville offices will close the week of June 29 and reopen July 6 in the Deaconess VNA Plus building. The Evansville phone number will remain unchanged: (812) 423-5456.
