Members of Jasper’s Precious Blood Parish gathered May 16 for a special Mass of Appreciation, which was devoted to celebrating the 57 year history of Precious Blood School.

Former students, staff, parents, parishioners, and other supporters gathered in a full church for the 4 p.m. Mass. Current students and their parents participated in the readings and petitions, as well as presenting the offertory gifts. Former Precious Blood Pastor Father Joseph Kane, retired from the Diocese of Evanville, concelebrated with Pastor Father Gary Kaiser. Father Kane was responsible for the 1998 building addition to the school building.

It has been a tradition at Precious Blood School's fifth-grade graduation to sing a special song at the end of Mass called “Thank You” by Ray Bolz. Former Precious Blood School graduates gathered at the front of church to sing that song at the end of Mass.

About 300 people stayed for the dinner and short presentation, held in the school gymnasium immediately following Mass.  The walls from the church to the gym were covered with old pictures spanning the history of Precious Blood School.  The stage of the gym was decorated with PBS shirts, quilts, and other memorabilia.  Father Kaiser welcomed everyone and thanked all who had made Precious Blood School possible throughout the years.

The Precious Blood, Holy Family (Jasper) and St. Mary (Ireland) schools are now part of Holy Trinity Catholic School, which serves all of Dubois County.
