WWII Veterans Can Fly Free

Honor Flight of Southern Indiana invites area WWII veterans to apply for a free trip to Washington, D.C. to see their Memorial on Oct. 24, 2015. Veterans also will see the Korean, Vietnam, Lincoln, and Iwo Jima Memorials, and they will visit Arlington National Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknowns during the changing of the guard.

Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization with a mission of providing Southern Indiana’s senior veterans a same-day free trip out of Evansville Regional Airport to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials. The flight will include as many as 70 WWII veterans with guardians to support the needs of the veterans, making their day one of the most memorable of their lives. Also included on the flight are wheelchairs for each veteran to use throughout the day.

The trip will begin at Evansville Regional Airport with breakfast, followed by a nonstop flight to Washington’s Reagan National Airport. Buses will take the group directly to the WWII memorial, followed by a city tour and an afternoon of visiting the other memorials. The visit ends at the Arlington Cemetery for the changing of the guard. The return flight to Evansville will arrive about 8:30 p.m., CDT.
