Jama Williamson plays Patricia Hughes, Patrick Henry's mother, in

Evansville native and Reitz Memorial High School graduate Jama Williamson stars in the new film “I Am Potential,” which opens July 17 at Showplace South Cinemas, 950 South Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47715. The theater is along the east side of South Green River Road, across from the Lawndale Shopping Center.

Daily show times for the film are 11:30 a.m., 2:05 p.m. 4:35 p.m., 7:05 p.m. and 9:35 p.m.

“I Am Potential” is based on the inspiring true story of Louisville, Ky., native Patrick Henry Hughes. Williamson plays Patrick Henry’s mother Patricia.

Hughes was born without eyes, and his joints didn't form properly, keeping him from ever walking.

With the help and support of his family, Hughes fought all the odds to become an accomplished pianist, trumpet player and singer. The Hughes family’s story reminds us all to look at the things we have – instead of dwelling on the things we don’t have – as we all try to reach our God-given potentials.

Williamson earned a degree in communications and theater from the University of Notre Dame. She has appeared in Law & Order, Parks and Recreation, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Mentalist, Private Practice and a number of other TV series and films.

She returns to Evansville when she can, including for the annual Tri State IDOL finals. The event supports Marian Education Outreach, a ministry of the Diocese of Evansville that is committed to providing opportunities for students with unique learning needs to reach their highest potential while remaining in the diocesan Catholic school system.  Jama’s mother, Beverly Williamson, is director of MEO.
