Portrait of Father Gueguen

“In the sanctuary you will notice the portrait of Father Louis Gueguen, which was recently painted by Pauline Hotz,” writes Father Kenneth Walker, pastor at St. John Parish in Loogootee.

“As many of you will remember, Father Gueguen built the present St. John the Evangelist Church before the wings were added. Father Gueguen is important to our new parish as he also founded St. Mary in Shoals and St. Martin in Whitfield.

“He even supervised the building of both churches. It is our intention to hang the portrait above the entrance of the church in the vestibule. I have a special fondness for Father Gueguen as he is my great-great uncle and I am most appreciative to Pauline for her rendering of him.”

Anniversary of ordination

Father David Fleck, pastor of St. Francis Xavier, St. John the Baptist and St. Vincent de Paul parishes, both in Vincennes, presbyteral moderator and sacramental minister to St. Thomas Parish in Vincennes, administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Vincennes, and St. Philip Neri Parish in Bicknell, was ordained to the priesthood Sept. 5, 1975.
