Dozens of catechists from parishes across the Diocese of Evansville spent Aug. 29 picking up – and sharing – ideas on transmitting the faith during the 2015 Formation Day at the Catholic Center.

“Topics ranged from evangelization to effective strategies, from spirituality of the catechist to the human dignity of each person, from catechizing different generations to the spirituality of Pope Francis and much more,” said Diocesan Director of Catechesis Kathy Gallo.  “Catechists understand the importance of growing in their own faith, and understanding and looking for ways to engage people of all ages in knowing Jesus Christ.”

Gallo also shared the following quote from Pope Francis about catechists: “The catechist, then, is a Christian who is mindful of God, who is guided by the memory of God in his or her entire life and who is able to awaken that memory in the hearts of others. This is not easy! It engages our entire existence!”
