Project Rachel

Father Eugene Schmitt, pastor at St. Peter Celestine Parish in Celestine and St. Raphael Parish in Dubois, writes, “Pope Francis recently said that he is giving certain priests the delegation to forgive the sin of abortion.

“In some countries, normally a priest is not allowed to dispense a person from the sin of an abortion without delegation from his bishop.

“In most dioceses in the United States priests have been delegated with the faculty to absolve the sin of abortion. However, in the ‘Year of Mercy,’ Pope Francis has declared we as a Church wish to reach out to those who have had a role in an abortion.

”Program Rachel is a great program to take part in for those who have had a role in an abortion. For more information about this program contact me or our local Catholic Charities at 812-423-5456.
