Eighth grader Sam Schulz shares information with students at Good Shepherd School during a Walk for the Poor.

The students and staff at Good Shepherd School in Evansville participated in a Walk for the Poor on Sept. 23.

“School families visited nine stations and learned about different groups who struggle with various forms of poverty,” said Judy VanHoosier, principal.

They prayed a novena at each station focusing on a different person or group. “This included St. Vincent DePaul, the poor in spirit, the elderly poor, Pope Francis and his focus on the poor, refugees of natural disasters and war, veterans, the working poor, and the disabled and children in poverty.

“After the walk, the students learned ways that we can help the poor in their struggles and make a difference in their lives.

“Good Shepherd School has chosen to join in the efforts of the American Red Cross and the ‘Totes for Hope’ program by collecting tissues and toothpaste for homeless and low income veterans.”
