Benedictine Sister Doris Schepers

 

Sister Doris Schepers made her perpetual monastic profession as a member of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand on Oct. 17 in Monastery Immaculate Conception Church in Ferdinand.

Bishop Charles C. Thompson, presided.

Sister Doris, 53, from Ferdinand, is the daughter of Oscar and Marlene Schepers. She has four brothers and three sisters.

She has a bachelor’s degree in education, with a minor in mathematics, from Indiana University Southeast. She also has an associate of applied science degree in computer programming from IVY Tech Community College and an associate of specialized business degree in computer science from Sullivan Junior College of Business.

Before entering the monastery in 2006, Sister Doris worked as a systems administrator for U.S. Congressman Lee Hamilton and Congressman Baron Hill and as Youth Minister at St. Anthony Parish in Clarksville, Ind.

After entering the monastery, she was a substitute teacher in Evansville and also taught math at John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Jasper. She made her first monastic profession in 2009. She is currently in her fifth year of teaching religion at St. Patrick School in Louisville. 

Founded in 1867, the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand currently number 149 and serve in areas of education, parish work, health care, retreat and spirituality work, social services, counseling and mission work in Indiana, Kentucky and Peru.
