A statue of St. Raymond

“A statue of St. Raymond of Penyafort has been carved in Italy and I have learned this week that it is on its way to the United States,” writes Father Kenneth Walker, pastor at St. John Parish in Loogootee.

“It was donated in memory of Alma Rose and John William Walker, who were my aunt and uncle.

“After consultation with the parish council, we decided to put the statue of St. Raymond on the wall where we have the smaller statue of the Blessed Mother that we use for May crowning.

“The smaller statue of the Blessed Mother will be moved to the server sacristy and placed on a wall pedestal which is also being donated. Then during the month of May, the statue of the Blessed Mother will be placed in the sanctuary like we did this year.

“St. Raymond of Penyafort is the patron saint of canon lawyers and he is special to me as I am also a canon lawyer.”
