VanHoosier retiring

“Judy VanHoosier (Principal of Good Shepherd School in Evansville) announced her retirement effective at the end of this school year,” Diocesan Superintendent of Schools Daryl Hagan announced in a Jan. 15 email. “I often refer to Judy as the 'gold standard' due to her work ethic and strong faith.  She will be missed!”

Editor’s Note – The Message will publish a feature on VanHoosier later this year, as her retirement approaches.

Father Jim Koressel reports, “Current total of donations is $38,800.00. We will continue to accept any donations to this project. These funds are placed in a restricted fund and can be used only for the purpose designated – the restoration of St. Peter’s (Montgomery) tower, dome and cross.

Congratulations1

Father Sudhakar Bhastati, associate pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Haubstadt and St. Bernard Parish in Snake Run, was ordained to the priesthood on Jan. 29, 2009.

Gather Simon Natha, associate pastor at St. Boniface Parish in Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood on Jan. 29, 2009.

Third book!

Dr. Jim Schroeder, a member of Holy Redeemer parish, writes, “I just published my newest book, ‘Wholiness: The Unified Pursuit of Health, Harmony, Happiness, and Heaven.’  I have previously published the books ‘40 Days of Hopeful Prayer’ and ‘Into the Rising Sun.’  ‘Wholiness’ is available now on Amazon.  Father Tony Ernst was nice enough to offer the following comments after reading it: “‘In this powerful text, Dr. Jim Schroeder offers some great insights into the mystery of human life. I particularly appreciate his emphasis on the need for us to be real – to confront our human condition and its imperfections.  A wise priest once told me that if we want to be holy, we must lean into the Cross, and not run away from it. This is where we will truly experience wholeness and holiness.  I pray that those who read Dr. Schroeder's text will find tools that lead to a life filled with greater meaning and purpose, and ultimately to life eternal with our Lord.”

Happy Birthday!!

“Happy 102nd Birthday to Geneive (Jenny) Lents, who celebrated her birthday Jan. 6.  Jenny was one of our first Ladies of St. Vincent de Paul Society,” reports Father Kenneth Walker in the St. John, Loogootee bulletin.

Joyful

“This Christmas was outstanding!” Father Ray Brenner writes in the St. Joseph, Jasper parish bulletin. “I found great joy in spending time with my siblings and extended family. We had 65 for Christmas dinner. I also want to thank you, the families of Saint Joseph, for the gift of your presence. At both our regular and Holy Day Masses, it helps me recharge when I see you.”

Thank You

Father Dave Fleck writes, “Thank you to Deacon Earl [Ruppel] for his years of service to St. Thomas Parish and to the Knox Count Community. He is retiring as Pastoral Life Coordinator for St Thomas Parish. He can continue serving as a deacon by assisting at Masses and leading various prayer services as he has done in the past.
