'Come And See' Life As A Sister Of Providence

Do you want to live joyfully? Would you like to deepen your faith and live more intentionally? Are you looking for ways to serve God through works of love, mercy and justice, while breaking boundaries and creating hope? 

All single Catholic women, ages 18-42, are invited to learn more about becoming a Sister of Providence during a “Come and See” weekend retreat from 7 p.m. ET on April 8 to 2 p.m. ET on April 10. 

During the retreat, participants will have the chance to meet informally with new members of the Sisters of Providence, get to know the spirituality and mission of the order, find individualized support for their discernment journey, and meet and share experiences with other women also considering religious life. 

“If you are discerning religious life, the beautiful grounds of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods provide a peaceful atmosphere that will allow you to enter into solitude to pray more deeply, listen more attentively and respond more fully to God’s movement within,” Vocation Director Sister Editha Ben said. 

The Sisters of Providence, a congregation of nearly 320 women religious with more than 200 Providence Associates, exist to further God’s loving plans by devoting themselves to serving others through works of love, mercy and justice. The sisters have their motherhouse at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, located just northwest of downtown Terre Haute, Ind. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in 1840. Today, Sisters of Providence minister in 17 states, the District of Columbia and Asia – including in the Diocese of Evansville. 

There is no charge for the weekend retreat, and meals will be provided. Those interested in attending are asked to register.
