Saint Meinrad Archabbey Offering Easter-season Confession

By The Message Staff

Opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available at Saint Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, Ind., on Saturdays and Sundays during the Easter season.

Confession will be available at the chapel in the Archabbey Guest House:

10:30 a.m. CDT to 11:30 a.m. CDT on April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; and May 7 and 14

8:15 a.m. CDT to 9:15 a.m. CDT on April 3, 10, 17 and 24; and May 1, 8 and 15

The opportunities for confession are part of the observance of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, as designated by Pope Francis.

During the Year of Mercy, Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin of Indianapolis selected the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church as one of two pilgrimage sites in the archdiocese that Catholics may visit to receive a plenary indulgence established by the Holy See for the jubilee year. The other church is Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis.

To receive the plenary indulgence, Catholics can pass through the designated “holy door” at the church, recite a profession of faith (the Apostles’ or Nicene Creed), and pray for the pope and his intentions.

Additionally, during the 20 days before or after passing through the holy door, Catholics are required to be truly repentant of their sins and participate in the sacrament of penance; receive Communion; and prayerfully reflect on mercy after receiving the Eucharist.

The Holy Door of Mercy is the northernmost door at the main entrance to the Archabbey Church.
