Mater Dei names new girls basketball boach

Mater Dei High School in Evansville has announced that Chad Breeden will replace Steve Goans as girls basketball head coach.   Breeden was an assistant under Goans the past year, and he teaches English and Journalism at Mater Dei. Goans resigned at the end of the 2015-16 season. He led Mater Dei to the 2012 and 2013 IHSAA state championships and was the 2014 runner-up. "I am excited to take over the girls basketball program,” Breeden said, “and look forward to continuing the winning tradition established by Coach Goans and his predecessors at Mater Dei."

Father Ron Kreilein, pastor of St. Bernard Parish in Rockport and St. Martin I Parish in Chrisney, celebrates his birthday on April 6.

Father Alex Zenthoefer, pastor of Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Evansville, celebrates his birthday on April 10. Father Zenthoefer also serves as Diocesan Director of Vocations, and Chaplain at Reitz Memorial High School.

 

Area events for Autism Awareness Month

Colleen York, a member of St. John the Baptist in Newburgh, works for Inspiring Autism Spectrum Families and The Autism Society of Indiana. She volunteers for a third autism-related nonprofit, Optimal Rhythms Inc.  She contacted The Message about a number of events being held in April, which is Autism Awareness Month. They include the Evansville Icemen Autism Awareness Night on April 1, the Rethinking Autism Conference (which includes the World Autism Awareness Luncheon) on April 1-2 and several other events throughout the month. It all concludes on April 30 with the Inspiring Autism Spectrum Families Walk for Autism and 5K run. Father Joseph Ziliak, Vicar of Retired Priests, was ordained to the priesthood on April 7, 1962.
