Celebrating beauty this Easter season

Father Joseph Erbacher, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Linton and Holy Name Parish in Bloomfield, writes, “In this beautiful season of the year, let each one of us carry the beauty of The Risen Lord long into the lives of each individual with whom we journey through life. Appreciating the beautiful flowers, our beautifully decorated churches, the beauty of families worshipping together, and above all, the beauty of The Eucharistic Celebration, truly inspires each of us to beautifully sing out, Alleluia, Alleluia, He Has Risen!”

Gratitude for parish volunteers

Father Kenneth Walker, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Loogootee, writes, “I would like to thank Brenda Dant for making the scapulars that the servers wear over their albs during Mass and for the Baptismal Scapular she made for Jennifer Schutte, who was baptized at the Easter Vigil.

“Also a special thank you to Pat Wagoner and Cam Ackerman for working on and changing the spot lights in the church, which involves moving the pews and the use of a lift. This process took many hours – for which I am most grateful.

“Richard Kluesner also deserves a note of thanks for his ongoing work with the registers in the church. This often involves changing the motors and making other necessary adjustments. We are truly gifted with so many volunteers in the parish who work behind the scenes. May the Lord bless each and every one of you!”

Calling for a free China

Lauren Market, who attends All Saints Parish in Evansville, contacted The Message about an April 11 event at Willard Library in Evansville on “Tuidang,” which is a movement calling for the people of China to quit the Chinese Communist Party. Although not a Catholic event or movement, Market likens it to Our Lady of Fatima’s call for the world to defeat Communism in Russia. “This is something I believe Catholics in our diocese will want to be aware of,” she said.

All day on April 11, the Browning Gallery in the library will feature a photo exhibit documenting acts of courage displayed by people renouncing the CCP. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Market will host a discussion on the movement that will feature guests speakers David Tompkins, public relations director for the Tuidang Center in New York City, and Jerry Hu, a former military officer and prisoner who was persecuted in China for his beliefs. The event, which also will be held in the gallery, is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. Visit the library website at http://www.willard.lib.in.us/ and click on the Calendar button, then on the April listings, to find the official announcement of the exhibit and the discussion.
