Brother Lawrence Murphy, president of Reitz Memorial High School, and John K. Browning, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, announced May 18 that Dr. Anne Marie Williams, who served Catholic education in the Diocese of Evansville from 1994 through 2007, is returning as Principal of Reitz Memorial for the 2016-17 school year. She replaces the retiring Cyndi Schneider.

A native of Marion, Ind., Williams served as Principal of Evansville’s St. Theresa School from 1994 to 1998; as Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Evansville from 1997 to 2003; and as Principal of Mater Dei High School from 2003 to 2007. She left Evansville to become Director of the Pastoral Office of Education for the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, and has served in that position since 2007.

Williams’ daughter Michelle (Class of 1999) and son Kyle (Class of 2003) are Reitz Memorial graduates.

“What a privilege it is to return to Evansville and the Memorial community that supported me in educating and forming my children in knowledge, skill, and most importantly – faith,” Williams said. “Evansville is the community we all grew to call home, and I thank God for allowing me this opportunity to return and serve.”

“Dr. Marie Williams comes to Memorial with a wealth of experience in the ministry of Catholic education,” Brother Murphy said.  “She has held leadership positions in Catholic education as a primary and secondary school principal, served as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Evansville, and as the Principal of Mater Dei High School before becoming the Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Williams back to the Diocese of Evansville, and we are very excited that she has agreed to become the Principal of Reitz Memorial High School.

“All of our prayers and best wishes go with her as she begins this new part of her  ministry in Catholic school leadership,” Brother Murphy added. “We are looking forward to working with her.”

"Reitz Memorial welcomes Dr. Williams back to Evansville as our next Principal,” Browning said. “We look forward to working with her as we continue our 90-year tradition of providing quality Catholic secondary education."

Williams earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Indiana University-Fort Wayne. She earned an Education Specialist Degree and a Doctorate, both in Educational Leadership, from Indiana State University.

Williams continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, a position she has held since 1998. Before becoming Principal at St. Theresa School in Evansville, she served in teaching and administrative roles at Catholic schools in Huntington, Marion and New Haven, Ind.
