Bishop Charles C. Thompson called June 11 “a glorious day for the Diocese of Evansville” as he opened the Ordination Mass for Father Tyler Tenbarge, Father Ambrose Wanyonyi and Deacon Homero Rodriguez.
Father Tenbarge will serve as Associate Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh effective June 29. Father Wanyonyi will serve as Associate Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Evansville, also effective June 29. Deacon Rodriguez will continue to serve Holy Rosary Parish and minister to the Latino community across the diocese until his priestly ordination in December.
Father Wanyonyi celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving at 11 a.m. CT on June 12 at Annunciation Parish’s Christ the King Church. Annunciation Pastor and Diocesan Director of Vocations Father Alex Zenthoefer delivered the homily.
Father Tenbarge celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving at 2 p.m. on June 12 at his home parish, Sts. Peter and Paul in Haubstadt. Benedictine Father Denis Robinson, President-Rector of St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, delivered the homily.
The full text of Bishop Thompson’s homily from the Ordination Mass begins on page 3 of this issue, and Assistant Editor Trish Smith’s feature with Father Tenbarge’s and Father Wanyonyi’s families begins on page 2.
Father Wanyonyi’s mother and niece traveled from his native Kenya for his priestly ordination, and they were joined by the pastor of his home parish. Members of Deacon Rodriguez’s family from the Chicago area attended, and many of Father Tenbarge’s family member and friends from Gibson County and the surrounding area attended.
