Nine years ago, Father Henry Kuykendall, then-pastor of Evansville’s Nativity Parish, asked the Daughters of Charity for some assistance. The order’s response was not what he expected. The Daughters asked whether he would care to meet and possibly work with Daughter of Charity Sister Sharon Haskins?

“These people need more than me talking all of the time,” said Father Kuykendall, who retired from pastoral ministry at the end of 2014.  “Sister Sharon is a blessing.“

Sister Sharon celebrated her Golden Jubilee on June 18 with dinner, music and dancing in the Nativity Parish cafeteria.  Attendees thanked Sister Sharon with for her service to Nativity through prayer and song.

Father Kuykendall noted Sister Sharon has been a great asset to the Nativity, and in particular a blessing to the Hispanic community.  She will continue to work as a Sister Servant in Saint Louis, ministering to retired religious.

“All of you have touched me,” said Sister Sharon.  “God bless you … and come to Saint Louis – it’s not very far.  We have some retired sisters over there who need someone to minister to them. The superiors and I are called sister servants.  Saint Vincent thought that was the way we should act, and I’m going to go there to be a sister servant, which I have done (for) half my community life.”
