First In The World!

By

Mater Dei High School’s Supermileage Team recently traveled to London, England, for the Drivers World Championship, a competition sponsored by Shell. More than 200 teams competed in an overall challenge and in classifications based on design. Mater Dei finished first among teams using combustion engines and fourth overall! During the competition, they had a chance to meet and visit with Formula 1 driver Kimi Raikkonen of Team Scuderia Ferrari, who is shown  talking to the team in a June 29 visit to the competition. The team photo includes driver Grant Weiss, kneeling in front of the car, advisor Dan Ritter, standing at left, team members Drew Henderson, Jacob Schapker, Joe Memmer, Wade Wilmes, Grace Cox and Mitchell Heim, and advisors David Weiss and Bob Neisen.  In the third photo, team crew members Wilmes and Heim push Weiss, in the car, into position for a qualifying run. The fourth photo shows the starting grid for the final race. As is customary in Formula 1 competition, each car in the final race was represented by a flag bearer with their nation's flag.
