As we search our past, it is easy to remember the parent, teacher or neighbor who made an impact in our lives.  It also brings to mind all of those persons who interacted with our lives without our ever even knowing.

St. Mary’s leaders, during their most recent leadership retreat, chose to collect school supplies as a service project for children in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp (EVSC).  This is just the most recent example of a decades-old relationship between St. Mary’s Health and EVSC, the third largest school corporation in Indiana.

“Something like this reminds me not only of the generosity of our St. Mary’s leaders but also of the enduring relationship St. Mary’s has with this community,” said Eric Girten, Director of Community Health for St. Mary’s.

A total of 1,718 items were donated, including backpacks, binders, crayons, pencils, glue, assorted other items and even one calculator.

“St. Mary’s leaders care a great deal about our local community, and it was a highlight of our leadership retreat to learn that more than 120 EVSC families will not have to worry about the financial burden of providing school supplies for their children because of the generosity of our leaders,” said John Greaney, Vice President of Ambulatory and Consumer Health Services.

“I am honored to be a part of such a team that came together, on short notice, to supply kids the opportunity to have new supplies,” said Kim Greer, Executive Assistant and event organizer.
