Three members of the Diocese of Evansville’s Catholic Charities staff recently completed training that enables them to serve as long-term relief workers in the event of a natural disaster, and also to train and oversee the work of other relief workers.

Robin Forney, Laura Stone and Kyla Wargel completed a five day course called “Disaster Case Management: Train the Trainers.” Wargel is the only bilingual case manager in the state of Indiana to complete this training.

Catholic Charities USA workers offer long-term relief and recovery services across the country long after events fade from the news cycles and awareness diminishes. As an example, Catholic Charities USA workers remain on-site in various locations helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy – the deadliest and most destructive storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season. Their efforts focus on rebuilding the physical and spiritual components of victims’ lives.
