Hundreds Prepare To 'Get Out And Serve' In Huntingburg

By

More than 180 members of St. Mary Parish in Huntingburg will be among the more than 500 members from eight area congregations that will “Get out and Serve” Huntingburg on Sept. 11. St. Mary Parish Catechetical Leader Rachel Wright provided The Message with a partial list of the projects set for the day:

  • Cleanup at Huntingburg Lake and the town’s three parks

  • Cleanup and organizing at the Shared Abundance Ministry on 4th St.

  • Pulling weeds along 4th St.

  • Providing personal-care assistance, performing music and possible landscaping at The Waters of Huntingburg

  • Assisting with small projects (window cleaning, etc.) at Friendship Circle Apartments and League Circle Apartments

  • Free car washes at Huntingburg Memorial Gymnasium

  • Making “tie blankets” for hospice, and for provision to local law enforcement to have in their duty cars for use as necessary

“There also will be a prayer group for those who would like to devote their time simply to praying,” Wright said. She explained that the group will make stops to pray at the police and fire stations, city hall and schools.

St. Mary Pastor Father Ryan Hilderbrand told The Message he sees this as a wonderful opportunity for service during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, when Pope Francis has particularly urged Catholics across the world to practice the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
