New Youth Minister

Congratulations to Gabe Horrall, new Youth Minister at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Vincennes.  Gabe officially began his position on Aug. 22.


Sisters of the Little Company of Mary

Sisters of the Little Company of Mary Sister M. Renee Cunningham celebrates her 50th Jubilee of entrance into religious life on Sept. 11 at St. Joseph Church in Jasper.  The public is invited to Mass at 2 p.m. with a reception immediately following until 5 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center, Jasper.

Sister Renee was born in Torrance, Calif., and received her nursing diploma from the Little Company of Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Evergreen Park, Ill.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from University of Evansville and a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University in New Orleans. Sister Renee worked in Little Company of Mary hospitals in Evergreen Park and Torrance prior to coming to Jasper in 1975. At Memorial Hospital, she has worked as staff nurse, nursing relief supervisor, director of education, palliative care nurse, and parish nurse.

Serving as secretary of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s Board of Directors, Sister Renee also chairs the hospital’s Mission Committee and is a member of the Ethics and Corporate Compliance Committees. She is also a member of the Leadership Team for the American Province of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary.

The Sisters of the Little Company of Mary are a worldwide, apostolic congregation of consecrated women in the Roman Catholic tradition following the spirit and model of Calvary. The Congregation is named for the “little company” of faithful followers who stayed with Mary, the Mother of Jesus, at the foot of the Cross throughout his suffering and death.



MEO Tri-State IDOL auditions now open

Auditions for Marian Educational Outreach’s 2017 Tri-State IDOL competition are now open via YouTube. Entries will close Oct. 31, 2016.

“We know that many potential entrants have difficulty arranging their busy schedules to audition in person,” said MEO Executive Director Beverly Williamson. “We believe our online-audition process will make it possible for anyone to enter, and we’re excited about that.”

To audition for Tri-State Idol, soloists or groups should upload a 1-5 minute performance video to YouTube (videos created on smartphones and other portable devices are welcome). After the video is uploaded, entrants should visitwww.meoidol.com and complete the online video submission form, providing the link to their video. Judges will pick semifinalists from all entries submitted by the Oct. 31 deadline.

Entrants must be available to perform in person at the semifinals, which are scheduled for 2 p.m. CT on Nov. 19. Those chosen as finalists must be available to perform in person at the MEO Tri-State IDOL gala on March 4, 2017.

The competition is open to high school and college students, and adults.MEO will assist those without video equipment or Internet access to have their audition performance recorded. To make arrangements, please call the MEO office at (812) 402-6700, Ext. 2.

Lady of the Year

St. Bernadette Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International offered an award for the first time for Lady of the Year.  The local Auxiliary nominated Wilma Riedford, and she was awarded 4th place.  Members of the local Auxiliary presented Wilma with the award.
