Rose Obert, parish catechetical leader at St. Bernard Parish, Snake Run, celebrates her birthday Oct. 28.

Deacon Dan DeCastra, Good Shepherd Parish, Evansville, celebrates his birthday Oct. 28.

Father Kenneth Betz, senior associate at St. James Parish in Haubstadt, celebrates his birthday Oct. 31.

Marty Craig, principal at Corpus Christi School, Evansville, celebrates her birthday Oct. 31.

Members join Saint Meinrad Board of Overseers

 

The Saint Meinrad Board of Overseers welcomes four new members, along with three returning members and an emeritus member, to the advisory board for Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.  The new members are Father Anthony chandler, Father Christopher House, Jacob Kraft and Father Andrew Syberg.  Returning members are  Benedictine Sister Jane Becker, Judge Cecile Blau and Bonnie Graham; the emeritus member is J. Robert Shine. Sister Becker and Graham are local members.

    The Diocese of Evansville has two local representatives reappointed to the board: Benedictine Sister Jane Becker and Bonnie Graham. Sister Becker is the subprioress of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand.  She is a former instructor in psychology at Saint Meinrad College, and also served Saint Meinrad School of Theology as associate dean of students and staff psychologist.  For three years she served as director of the school's Student Counseling Services. She previously served on the Board of Overseers from 2004-2010.

Bonnie Graham has served as the past chair of the Saint Meinrad Campaign Cabinet, chair of the Development Committee for the Catholic Education Endowment Board in Washington, Ind., is a member of the Diocese of Evansville Review Board, and a member of a special fund raising committee for the Washington, Ind. Catholic Schools.  She and her husband Beeb (Robert C. Graham III) reside in Washington, Ind.  They are members of Our Lady of Hope Parish, where Bonnie serves as lay reader and Eucharistic minister.  She previously served on the Board of Overseers for 18 years.

    The board advises President-Rector Benedictine Father Denis Robinson on matters related to the school’s programs and performance and addresses strategic questions related to the future of the school.  Each member serves a three-year term.

 

Daughters of Charity celebrating significant milestones

Daughters of Charity Sisters Gertrude Levy and Yvonne Thranow are celebrating 80 years and 70 years, respectively, as Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent DePaul.  Sister Gertrude and Sister Yvonne live at the Daughters of Charity Seton Residence on in Evansville.

Sister Gertrude was born in New Orleans, La., and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis.  During her years with the Daughters, Sister Gertrude ministered in education, child care and healthcare.  She moved to Seton Residence in 2014.  Presently she is volunteering in St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation.

Sister Yvonne was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis.  Sister Yvonne ministered in social work in San Francisco, Chicago and Evansville. She was also involved in Formation for new members in St. Louis.  Sister Yvonne moved to Seton Residence in 2004.
