Bishop Charles C. Thompson celebrated the 9 a.m. Mass on Nov. 1 – All Saints Day – at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville. Students from St. Benedict Cathedral School attended.

“By our baptism,” the bishop said in his homily, “we are called to holiness; we are called to be saints.” He continued by talking about St. Theodore Guerin, who lived and worked in Indiana for several years and who is buried in Terre Haute; and about Servant of God Bishop Simon Bruté, the first bishop of Indiana who is buried under the Minor Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Vincennes – the first diocesan seat in the state.

“The Church canonizes saints and, in doing so, recognizes them as allowing Jesus Christ to shine through themselves and their lives,” Bishop Thompson said. “All of us look to the saints for the inspiration to allow Christ to shine through us … and to allow us to be inspirations to others.”

Benedictine Father Godfrey Mullen, rector of St. Benedict Cathedral, concelebrated Mass with the Bishop. Deacon Thomas Kempf assisted.
