Hasenour honored as Distinguished Alumni

Richard Hasenour was presented the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Holy Cross Association of Alumni and Friends on Sept.18, during Holy Cross Parish’s annual celebration weekend. Hasenour attended Holy Cross School grades first through eight and graduated from Fort Branch High School.  The award, established in 1997, is presented to a Holy Cross graduate who has been recognized by their peers as a living exemplary Catholic.

“When we think of stewardship, his name comes to mind immediately,” the parishioner (anonymous) who nominated Hasenour stated. “For the past two years, he has gone on the youth mission trips, working side by side with the youth, teaching and leading by example while interjecting some humor.  He is an excellent role model for our children in Religion classes. He serves as board member of the Knights of St. John Commander and was a past president with them.  He is always willing to drop what he is doing to help a friend or neighbor. ” Hasenour has served as an usher, Eucharistic minister, chicken dinner volunteer, Rosary leader, and has previously served on the Finance Commission and the Parish Council.

Richard received a framed certificate and a special cross.  His name was engraved on the Holy Cross Distinguished Alumni plaque displayed at the front entrance of Holy Cross School and he was honored at a reception following Mass.

Fifth Isaac’s Day of Music set for November 13

The fifth annual Isaac’s Day of Music will be from 1-5 p.m.on Nov. 13 at First Christian Church in Newburgh. The family-friendly event will include an afternoon of performances by local vocal and instrumental music groups, dance groups, and storytellers.  The day will also include inflatables, craft and activity tables sponsored by local organizations, and food sales. Admission is $5 per person, ages 2 and under are free.

Evansville’s Matt and Amy Miller, with the help of family members and friends, organize the annual Isaac’s Day of Music to raise money for the Isaac Miller Music Matters Endowment Fund, named after their son who died after an 18-month battle with cancer at the age of 4.

“Throughout his life, we saw the impact music had on Isaac, whether he was using music to express his feelings, interact with other children, or just be a ‘regular kid,’ even for a brief moment,” Amy said. “Every child should have the opportunity to experience music in the same ways and we started this fund to give them a chance.”

The event is the major fundraiser for the Music Matters fund, raising about $10,000 annually.  Previous recipients include St. Bernard School in Rockport to add outdoor musical instruments to their playground and St. Benedict Cathedral School to purchase a new keyboard.
