The Catholic Education Foundation’s Board of Directors held its annual meeting on Oct. 27 at Old National Bank headquarters in Evansville. After hearing reports on grants for tuition assistance awarded for the 2016-17 school year, the board nominated and elected Judy Blankenberger as a new board member and also elected a new slate of officers. Beth Clark will serve a president, Jim Will, Jr. as vice president, Jeff Anderson as secretary and Jay Adams as treasurer.

A report that included the total number of vouchers, SGO grants and CEF grants at Mater Dei and Reitz Memorial high schools was provided by Lou Ann Gilbert, coordinator of tuition assistance at Mater Dei, and Cindy Howard, coordinator of tuition assistance at Reitz Memorial. Through September of the 2016-17 school year, the Catholic Education Foundation has awarded tuition-assistance grants totaling $80,950 to 77 students at Mater Dei High School and $124,480 in grants to 115 students at Reitz Memorial High School.

Previously elected directors Jay Adams, Jeff Anderson, Beth Clark, Matt Goebel, Michael Schopmeyer, and Jim Will, Jr. attended the luncheon meeting, along with ex officio member Bishop Charles C. Thompson, who serves as board Chairman. Other ex officio members who attended included Diocesan Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daryl Hagan, Mater Dei High School President Dr. Tad Dickel and John Browning, Chair of the Reitz Memorial High School Board of Trustees.

Incoming president Beth Clark announced that Margaret Angermeier, who has served the CEF in an administrative capacity, is transitioning from that role into service as a volunteer. Reitz Memorial’s Cindy Howard is assuming CEF administrative duties with assistance from the board.

During the meeting, Dr. Hagan spoke to the group about the Nov. 3 diocesan-wide open house for Catholic schools. Bishop Thompson spoke words of encouragement to the board and led opening and closing prayer.

Since its establishment in 1968, the CEF has raised funds for tuition assistance, awarded on the basis on financial need, to families so their children may attend one of the two Evansville Catholic high schools.
