Memorial Hospital Receives Five Star Quality Rating for the Second Time

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its most recent quality rating for hospitals. Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper was among the top three percent of hospitals nationwide.

For the second time, Memorial Hospital achieved a five-star rating—the highest possible rating for quality of care, customer experience, and value of care received.

Memorial Hospital was one of only 112 hospitals nationwide to receive this distinction, and one of only nine in Indiana.

“Receiving this distinction a second time is a result of the consistent focus on our mission of being for others through quality and excellence from our dedicated workforce,” said E. Kyle Bennett, President/CEO of Memorial Hospital. “Our workforce is dedicated to providing the best care for the communities we serve, and we’re proud to receive this recognition.”

Veterans appreciated by St. John the Baptist youth

St. John the Baptist youth celebrated Veteran's Day with a Veteran's Appreciation Dinner and program held on Nov. 6. Veterans were invited to attend the 11 a.m. Mass with the youth, then join them in the parish center afterward for dinner and a program. Youth director Charlene Fiedler said the youth took the lead on this event, decorating the center, serving the veterans and performing. A youth instrumental group played “The Star Spangled Banner” for the celebrated guests, as well as a special song for each branch of service.

"We had almost 125 guests here for the dinner and program, including 28 veterans," said Charlene. "Our youth did a great job hosting this event and honoring our veterans. We couldn't have done it without all their hard work."

Parishioners enjoy early Thanksgiving in Bloomfield

Several parishioners enjoyed an early Thanksgiving meal after Mass at Holy Name of Jesus in Bloomfield on Nov. 9. The pitch-in is a monthly event that everyone is invited to attend (due to upcoming holidays, the next one will not be held until after Lent). After the meal, one attendee is invited to speak and tell a little about themselves. Bernie Douda spoke about his very interesting life, including visits to Rome.
