One cannot expect a town with a name like “Santa Claus” to go a Christmas Season without a festival in its namesake’s honor.  The fifth annual Das Nikolausfest, sponsored by St. Francis of Assisi Parish and held at St. Nicholas Church in Santa Claus, is a celebration of food and family fun, in coordination with the town’s festivities during the Santa Claus festival.

Das Nikolausfest takes place over three days: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. CT on Dec. 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. CT on Dec. 4, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. CT on Dec. 10.  All activities take place in the lower level of St. Nicholas Church in Santa Claus.

The first weekend features food and a Mass in celebration of the Feast of St. Nicholas, held at 4:30 p.m.CT on Dec. 4. All-you-can-eat soup, pulled pork, kraut balls, homemade pretzels, and fresh baked goods will be available.

The second weekend features food, entertainment from the Heritage Hills High School choir and Tuba Christmas, along with kid’s festivities. Before the parade on Dec.10, visit with St. Nicholas and enjoy free hot chocolate from 11-11:45 a.m.

Thanks to a grant received from the Spencer County Visitor’s Bureau, the festival will feature “The Story of St. Nicholas” from the St. Nicholas Foundation to share with the Community.
