Charges Pending For Electronic-recording Incidents

By

On Dec. 1, Evansville police arrested Ryan Belmonte, 26, on charges stemming from electronic-recording incidents that took place at Holy Rosary School. Belmonte had been employed as art teacher at the school since the 2013-14 school year. The diocese has terminated his employment, effective Dec. 2.

“The Diocese of Evansville is committed to promoting and protecting the dignity of every person and the sacredness of life, especially in defense of the most vulnerable,” said Bishop Charles C. Thompson. “Transparency and trust are vital to this effort, as we strive to witness to the healing grace of God's mercy and justice amid the wounds, brokenness and injustices of humanity. It is my hope and prayer that we never waver from the courage and humility necessary to proclaim in word and action our concern for all people, young and old.”

“The 26 schools of our diocese are committed to providing a safe environment for the thousands of students who attend our elementary, middle and high schools,” said Diocesan Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daryl Hagan. “We ask for everyone to join us in prayer for the Holy Rosary community and all affected.”

The Diocese of Evansville’s Report and Inform Policy encourages those who may become aware of incidents like this to call Child Protective Services, an agency of the Indiana state government, toll-free at 1-800-800-5556. They also should inform the Diocesan Victims Assistance Coordinator by calling 1-866-200-3004 or 1-812-490-9565.
