Evansville –Reitz Memorial High School has appointed John K. Browning as the Evansville school’s second President.  He succeeds Brother Lawrence Murphy, a member of the Congregation of Christian Brothers, who retired in July 2016.

An Evansville native, Browning is a 1972 graduate of Reitz Memorial and lifelong member of St. Benedict Cathedral Parish.  He has served on the Reitz Memorial Board of Trustees and various committees since the early 2000’s.

Browning brings more than 40 years of experience to Reitz Memorial. He worked for the Southwestern Healthcare system for 36 years, most recently serving with Behavioral Health Consulting.  He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his graduate degree from the University of Evansville.

“I have been privileged to serve as Bishop (Charles C.)Thompson's Priest delegate to the Reitz Memorial Board of Trustees since July 1, 2013,” said Father Zach Etienne, pastor of Evansville’s Good Shepherd Parish.  “During this time, I have witnessed John's strong love and dedication to his Alma Mater. Reitz Memorial High School has been especially blessed during the past few months as John stepped up as Board President, and volunteered extra time and energy from his already-busy schedule to work with (Diocesan Superintendent of Schools) Daryl Hagan, (Reitz Memorial Principal) Marie Williams, faculty, the staff in Holy Cross Hall, board members and others to continue the mission and high standards of our Christ-centered Catholic school community.”

“John has demonstrated his commitment to Catholic education for many years,” Reitz Memorial Principal Dr. Marie Williams said. “He has the experience and skills that are needed at Reitz Memorial, and I am deeply grateful he has accepted this opportunity to serve as President.”

“Reitz Memorial High School has always been a special place for me and my family, and I am humbled to be asked to be the next President,” Browning said. “I look forward to working with Dr. Williams and the entire Memorial team.”

Browning will assume his duties full-time later this month.

Reitz Memorial is in its 91st year of operation with a current enrollment of 695 students in grades 9 through 12.
