Father Jean Vogler, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood Feb. 28, 1970.

Deacon Cyril Will was ordained Feb. 10, 1990.

 

Newburgh student recognized as State winner


American Legion Kapperman Post 44 Chairman Steve Kissinger, left, District Chairman Buckey Honaker, Jentry Gottfried, and St. John the Baptist teacher Wyatt Arvin participate in an award ceremony held to present Gottfried with her award for being named a Junior Americanism and Government State winner for Indiana. Gottfried, a seventh grader at St. John the Baptist School in Newburgh, achieved this by winning the school level, the post level, the district level, and the State level of the competition. This award recognizes the exceptional faith, knowledge and service she has exemplified.

Gottfried and her family will be invited to the State award ceremony in Indianapolis where she will be presented a plaque and a $500 cash award.

The Americanism and Government Test program was started in 1984. The test is designed to demonstrate the student's' knowledge of American History, Government, and what it means to be a good citizen. The program is open to any student in the 7th and 8th grade in any public, private and parochial school within the State of Indiana. Last year over 6,000 students participated in the Americanism and Government Test.


 

St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary to hold fundraising sale


The St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary will hold a fundraising sale in the lobby of the Center for Advanced Medicine in Evansville from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 2, and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m on March 3.

This event features Masquerade Fundraising, known for high-fashion jewelry and accessories for women, men and children all at the amazing price of $5 each. They have jewelry, watches, scarves, camping accessories, gardening items, electronic accessories, and much more.

 

Cash, checks, and credit/debit cards are welcome. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary scholarship fund.
