Help launch a USI Eagle into a career by donating!

The University of Southern Indiana is pleased to announce a new program for students looking for jobs or internships.  On a college student’s budget, it is sometimes difficult to purchase a business suit. The Career Clothes Closet, a free service to provide students with business wear, was launched in January to fill this need.

Thus far, approximately 99 students have visited the closet.  Of that number, 49 were able to find suits in their size.  Students can visit and select one suit per year for use in interviewing or attending career fairs.

Many donations have been placed from local business professionals to initially stock the closet, but more are needed to support this ongoing service for students.  Donations of interview appropriate attire for men and women in all sizes will accepted, including business suits, blouses, shirts, ties, slacks, skirts, belts and shoes.  (All items should be cleaned and in good repair.)

To donate, drop off items in the Career Clothes Closet office in the lower level of the Orr Center on the USI campus or contact the center at career@usi.edu or 812-464-1865 to schedule a time to pick up.

Spiritual Direction Training Program 2017-2019

Applications are now being accepted for the next Spiritual Direction Training Program, which will begin the week of Oct. 22 at Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center, Maple Mount, Ky. (located 12 miles west of Owensboro on Hwy. 56).

The two-year program consists of four weekly training sessions each year. This program prepares participants for the ministry of spiritual direction from a Catholic perspective and in the spirit of Saint Angela Merici.

During each of the eight weeks, participants will enter into study, reflection and prayer around a topic fundamental to the understanding and practice of spiritual direction. Topics include spirituality, the inner journey, theology, prayer and scripture, ethics, supervision, and case studies. The last session ends with a three-day retreat. Each weekly session will offer daily opportunities for Eucharist, prayer and reflection in an atmosphere of contemplation. The sessions begin at noon Monday and end at 1 p.m. Friday.

Spiritual direction is the art of listening and companioning someone in an atmosphere of openness, honesty and prayer. The director helps the directee to discern the movement of the Spirit in his or her life.

The Spiritual Direction Training Program at Mount Saint Joseph is an opportunity to develop and practice skills necessary to learn the art of spiritual direction. The rural setting of Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center offers a quiet and serene atmosphere for prayer and discernment. The program is designed for both experienced directors and those who feel the call to this ministry. Under competent supervisors, all participants will have opportunities to learn and refine their skills. Participants receive intense training, practice, and supervision by a coordinating team.

The program fee includes tuition, meals and accommodations. A limited number of scholarships are available. For scholarships, contact Sister Ann Mcgrew at 270-229-0200. To register or for more information, contact Sheila Blandford at 270-229-4103 ext. 804, or sheila.blandford@maplemount.org. The deadline is Aug. 15.
