Local Schools Take Top Titles In Academic Competition

Students from across the state participated in the 2017 Indiana Academic Super Bowl, an annual event sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals and Purdue University.

Middle school teams competed on April 29 in regional competitions held throughout the state, answering multiple choice questions in five categories: English, interdisciplinary, math, science and social studies.  

 

Students from Diocese of Evansville Catholic middle schools earned eight top-10 rankings in the five categories, including two championships.

 

Holy Rosary School in Evansville led the field with top-10 state finishes in every category, including math, champion; English, second place; interdisciplinary, fifth-place; social studies, fifth-place; and science, seventh-place.

 

St. Benedict Cathedral School in Evansville earned the state champion in the interdisciplinary category and fourth place in English.

 

Evansville’s Resurrection School earned a fourth place in the math category.

 

The 31st annual Indiana Academic Super Bowl High School State Finals were held May 6 at Purdue University in Lafayette.  High school teams competed in the areas of science, fine arts, social studies, math, English and interdisciplinary.


Mater Dei High School in Evansville earned the state champion in the interdisciplinary category, third place in social studies and state finalist in math. 

Reitz Memorial High School earned state finalist awards in English, social studies and interdisciplinary.


Academic Competitions have a rich history in Indiana.  The Indiana Association of School principals first sponsored academic competitions in 1985, and the programs have expanded and grown consistently since that time.  Academic Competition for teams of students in grades 6-12 featuring multiple choice questions from across five subject areas.
