Happy birthday!

Lori Wissel, principal at Flaget Elementary School in Vincennes, celebrates her birthday on June 23.

Richard Preske, retired deacon of the Diocese of Evansville, celebrates his birthday on June 24.

 

Happy anniversary!

Father Stephen Lintzenich, retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood June 22, 1974.

 

 

Good Shepherd honors scholarship winners

 

Each year Good Shepherd Catholic School awards scholarships and awards to graduating eighth graders and alumni. Six students were honored as this year’s winners.

 

Frank Durchholz, Reitz Memorial High School graduate, received the Mary F. Thomas Achievement Award.  Frank is the son of Larry and Joyce Durchholz.

 

Mariah Fulton, Good Shepherd eighth-grade graduate, received the Mary F. Thomas Humanitarian Award presented to the student ranked highest by teachers on politeness and manners, religious participation, general attitude and service to others.  Mariah is the daughter of Tim and Michelle Fulton.

 

Allison Jewell, Good Shepherd eighth-grade graduate, received the Mary F. Thomas Scholastic Award presented to the eighth-grade student with the highest grade average. Allison is the daughter of Brian and Tammy Jewell.

 

The Mary F. Thomas awards were established in honor of Thomas, the fourth principal of Good Shepherd Catholic School.  Each student received a certificate and monetary award, and their names will be added to the plaques in the school foyer.

 

Sydney Kleiman and Maeson Damin were named as Serra Club honorees, an award that recognizes eighth-grade students that lead exemplary Christian lives, are recognized as leaders among their peers and inspire adult leaders.  Kleiman is the daughter of Kent and Shelly Kleiman.  Damin is the son of Andrew and Penny Damin.

 

The Judy Van Hoosier Memorial High School Scholarship was established by the Knights of Columbus of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish to commemorate VanHoosier’s retirement. Eighth-grade graduate Samuel Syroney, son of Michael and Kari Syroney, was named this year’s winner. Syroney was selected based on religious character, service to others and academic excellence.

   

Congratulations to all scholarship and award recipients.

 

 

Corpus Christi Procession and Vespers

 

All are welcome to join the Corpus Christi Procession beginning at 2 p.m. on June 18 from Annunciation Parish, Christ the King Church to St. Benedict Cathedral Parish.  Adoration begins at noon at Christ the King Church and the procession will leave at 2 p.m. There will be stops along the way for prayer and water.

 

There will be opportunities for private confession and Eucharistic adoration from the time of arrival through approximately 3:45 p.m.  Solemn Vespers and Benediction with Bishop Thompson will begin at 4 p.m. at the Cathedral.  Buses will be available to return participants to Christ the King Church after the Eucharistic procession ends.
