St. Peter Parish in Linton has named Hannah Kocher and Ben Lewellyn winners of the Jay and Fran Cissna Scholarships. Kocher will be a senior at Indiana Wesleyan University this fall, and Lewellyn will begin his studies at Vincennes University.
Jay and Fran Cissna became faithful members of St. Peter Parish after moving to Greene County in 1991. They spent a great deal of time, money and effort to help the St. Peter Thrift Shop/Food Pantry.
The Cissnas supplied the pantry with chicken, ham and other meats, and they sought out other food bargains each month.  They were truly generous to the poor.
Jay and Fran wanted to create an endowment for students going from high school to college.  After Fran died in August 1999, Jay added to the endowment with the stipulation that the scholarship fund be named in their honor as the Jay and Fran Cissna Scholarship Award, and that it be offered annually.
Jay died in February 2003. Since that time, many individuals from St. Peter Parish have benefited from this thoughtful memorial fund.
The Jay and Fran Cissna Scholarship is for members in good standing of St. Peter Parish.  This includes adult men and women, high school graduates and older college students who have been accepted to college, trade school, junior college or the equivalent for the upcoming academic year.
Each year, scholarships are awarded to recipients that meet the minimum requirements.
