Happy Birthday!

David Memmer, principal at Annunciation of the Lord School, Holy Spirit Campus in Evansville, celebrates his birthday July 20.

Father David Fleck, pastor at St. Francis Xavier in Vincennes, administrator of St. Philip Neri, Bicknell and dean of North Deanery, celebrates his birthday July 20.

Father Kenneth Walker, pastor at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Martin County and Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Evansville, celebrates his birthday July 22.

Deacon Dennis Russell, deacon at Sts. Mary and John Parish in Evansville, celebrates his birthday July 25.

 

Mater Dei’s Harrison places in top 30 at NSDA tournament

 

Alex Harrison, a 2017 graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville, placed in the top 30 in the nation in Prose Interpretation while representing Mater Dei at the NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association) National Speech and Debate Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

 

Harrison qualified for the NSDA National Tournament in "World Schools Debate" where she achieved a record of 4-2. She then competed in Prose Interpretation and beat out 413 other competitors from across the country to advance to the top 30. Harrison was the only student from Evansville to qualify for this prestigious event.

 

Harrison is a four-year member of Mater Dei's reigning State Champion speech program and was voted 1st team All-State this season by coaches from all across Indiana. Alex is attending Indiana University in the fall and will be studying Broadcast Journalism.

Join the Diocesan Choir for the upcoming Permanent Diaconate Ordination

 

Singers and instrumentalists from the Diocese are invited and encouraged to join the Diocesan Choir for the Diaconate Ordination that will take place at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5. at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville. The Diocesan Choir is open to anyone in the eighth grade and older.  The ability to read music is helpful, but not required.  Practices will be held in the St. Benedict Cathedral School basement as follows:

 

Sunday, July 23: 2 to 4:30 pm

Sunday, July 30:  2 to 4:30 pm

Tuesday, August 1:  6 to 7:30 pm

Free Concert to feature duo of Manibusan and Canedo

 

All are invited to join nationally acclaimed Catholic artists Jesse Manibusan and Ken Canedo at St. Benedict Cathedral at 7 p.m. on July 17 as they promote works from their latest collaboration, “Fish with Me.” The duo has been touring throughout the United States performing powerful songs for worship and prayer.  The free concert is sponsored by Good Shepherd Parish, and a free-will offering will be taken.

 

Manibusan is a singer, songwriter, catechist, storyteller, humorist and evangelizer. Well recognized throughout the country as a dynamic speaker and musician, he shares from his heart the love of Christ and the call to live out our baptism in every aspect of life. Manibusan is a familiar presence at national and diocesan conferences throughout the US, including the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC), World Youth Day, and many others.

 

Canedo is an eminently qualified liturgical composer, author-historian and workshop presenter. Ken’s first solo album, Take Some Time, was released in 1978. He has since released five albums, including his latest, Doxology. Ken collaborated with Jesse Manibusan on Love Never Fails. He is the author of Keep the Fire Burning: The Folk Mass Revolution, a history of contemporary Catholic music in the 1960s.
