Folk art exhibit on display at Archabbey Library Gallery

Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery in St. Meinrad is hosting an exhibit by Posey County folk artist Tom Wintczak. The show will run from July 17 through August 31.

The “Value in Folk Art” exhibit includes ceramics in the style of Early American settlers and Frakfur painting that was used to embellish documents. Wintczak is inspired by early folk art, but does not make reproductions. He uses the old tools and techniques to express his values and tell his story.

Wintczak was named one of America’s best traditional artisans in 2008 through 2017 by a jury of curators from such prestigious institutions as the Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, American Folk Art Museum, Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts, Mount Vernon and Winterthur. He also has been honored with Indiana Artisan status.

His work can be seen at Bee Tree Pottery in Posey County or various art festivals, such as Christmas in New Harmony or the Rendezvous in Vincennes.

For library hours, call 812-357-6401 or 800-987-7311, or visit the Archabbey Library’s website at www.saintmeinrad.edu/library/hours.  The exhibit is free and open to the public.  Those wishing to view the exhibit may want to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time.
