Family Of Faith Workshops Set For Girl Scouts

By

The Diocese of Evansville Committee for Girl Scouts will hold a series of workshops in October for Girl Scouts across the diocese who wish to obtain Catholic emblems. Workshops will be held on Oct. 21 at St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh and on Oct. 28 at St. Mary Parish in Ireland.

The workshops will be broken down into sessions for Catholic Girl Scouts in grades 2-3, 4-5 and 6-12. Following is information about each of these sessions.

Grades 2-3

The girls and one of their parents will have a workshop explaining the guidelines on filling out the book “Family of God,” and they will begin working on some of the activities. This workbook will take an additional 9-10 hours to complete, and includes activities for groups and families. Each troop or group will need to have a coordinator who will organize at least two get-togethers, gather the workbooks to be signed by the parish designate and returned to Committee on Girl Scouts members Lois Schenk or Mary Lou Bradley by March 15, 2018.  A single girl with an adult may also complete this book.  Scouts will receive their emblems at a Mass in the spring of 2018 at a location to be announced.

Grades 4-5

The girls and two counselors per troop or group (or a parent if the girl will be working alone) will also have a workshop explaining the guidelines on filling out the book “I Live My Faith,” and begin working on some of the activities.  This workbook will take about 15-20 hours to complete at home and working as groups.  The girls’ finished books, which must be signed by the parish designate, will be due on March 15, 2018.  Scouts will receive their emblems at a Mass in the spring of 2018 at a location to be announced.

Grades 6-12

The counselors/parent(s) of these girls only need to attend because only guidelines and books will be distributed – no activities will begin during these sessions. The girls’ finished books that have been signed by a parish designate will be due on March 15, 2018.  Scouts will receive their emblems at a Mass in the spring of 2018 at a location to be announced. The Grades 6-8 book, “Mary, the First Disciple,” will take 25-30 hours on average to complete at home and working as a group.  The 9th-12th Grades 9-12 book, “The Spirit Alive,” will take 35-40 hours to complete at home and working as a group.  Both of these books can be started and completed any time while a girl is at her level.  These books can also be started and finished as a single girl with adult supervision.
