The Association of the Ladies of Charity welcomes new members

The Association of the Ladies of Charity, a group composed mainly of lay women who work to help alleviate poverty in all its form in the spirit and tradition of St. Vincent dePaul, welcomes new members to its local Evansville chapter.

Since their beginning in 1918, the Evansville chapter of The Association of the Ladies of Charity has been “the sparkling facet in the gem of all things Vincentian,” according to president Connie Gries, pictured above. The group founded St. Vincent Day Care, now known as St. Vincent Center for Children and Families, which has expanded as an accredited early childhood center with comprehensive programs. In 2018, the Ladies of Charity and St. Vincent Center for Children and Families will celebrate their 100th birthdays.

The Ladies of Charity host several fundraisers each year, relying on members to help the community. Monetary support is provided through a year-long quilt raffle. A Steak Dinner Dance and silent auction are held each November.

Members have supplied hospitality bags of necessities to women and children residing at the Albion Fellows Bacon Center, a shelter for women suffering from domestic abuse and violence and human trafficking.

For more information, please contact Connie Gries at 812-963-6023 or 812-319-5969.  Daughters of Charity Sister Jane Burger, Vincentian Spiritual Advisor, would also be happy to answer any questions; she can be contacted at 812-499-0285.
