What must we do to become saints?

            Sister of Providence Denise Wilkinson will explore that question during Holy Rosary Parish’s Faith Day on Feb. 24.

St. Mother Theodore Guerin provided an answer long ago. Nothing extraordinary, said St. Mother Theodore; just do everyday things, but do them for God’s love.

Sister Denise, who served as general superior of the Sisters of Providence for 10 years, will explore that message as the Faith Day keynote speaker.

            Six other speakers in breakout sessions will discuss diverse aspects of the Faith Day theme: Love of God, Love of Neighbor, Love of Self.

            Faith Day is renewed at Holy Rosary after a two-year hiatus, with a format designed to be even more “user-friendly.” The event is shortened to a half-day program, with no registration fee. A donation of $5 is encouraged.

Past programs have attracted nearly 200 participants from numerous parishes across the diocese. Anyone interested in registering for Faith Day 2018 may call the Parish Office at 812-477-8923 or go online to hrparish.org.

Other speakers and their topics are:

            Companions on the Journey: God is Right Here, Right Now – Benedictine Sister Kathryn Huber has served the Sisters of St. Benedict at Ferdinand as federation president, prioress, retreat minister, principal and teacher;

            Who Is our Neighbor in this New Day? – Sister of Providence Ann Sullivan, a Sister of Providence for 54 years, was director of a community mental health center in Illinois for 10 years;

            Who Needs Who? – Father Alex Zenthoefer is pastor of Annunciation Parish in Evansville and Diocesan Director of Vocations;

            Loving God with your Everything – Deacon Jay VanHoosier is director of Faith Formation and Community Outreach at St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh;

            Why Love of Myself Is Necessary to Love your Neighbor as Yourself – Dr. Jim Schroeder, Ph. D., is a licensed psychologist, columnist and author of four books;

            The Road to Heaven: Your Personal Spiritual Life – Rich Klein has been a member and lay leader at Holy Rosary for more than 50 years.

            Sister of Providence Mary Mundy, Holy Rosary pastoral associate, explained the reason for sponsoring the inspirational program. “Lent is an especially good time to focus on transformation,” she said. “We need to transform, each of us, individually, our own hearts. But, we also need to bring about a transformation within our nation and on Earth so there is more peace in our world.

“Jesus shows us the way to peace through love of God, love of neighbor and love of self. Holy Rosary Parish is offering our Faith Day as a time apart to listen and then act, to follow the teachings of Jesus and make a difference for good!”

This is the Faith Day schedule for Feb. 24:

815-9 a.m. – Registration

9:00-9:20 – Welcome, prayer

9:20-10:00 – Keynote

10:10-11:55 – Breakout sessions

12:05-12:30 – Reflections, sharing, closing prayer

Holy Rosary will hold a separate Faith Day program on March 12 for the area’s Spanish-speaking community.
