Young adults invited to join St. Vincent DePaul Society

 

St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh has formed a Young Adult St. Vincent de Paul Society and would like to invite all 23-40-year-old adults to join them.  The group currently prepares and serves a meal once a month at the Ozanam shelter and is exploring other ways to help the community. Young adults who want to give back to their community and be more involved in their Catholic faith should visit the Young Adult St. Vincent de Paul Society in Southern Indiana facebook page or email Megan Hardison at mehardison22@gmail.com.

 

Philosophy professor to speak on prayer at Saint Meinrad’s Thomas Lecture

Dr. Caitlin Smith Gilson will present the annual Thomas Lecture on Philosophy and Theology at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in St. Meinrad.

 

The lecture will be held at 7 p.m.on April 12 (CT)in St. Bede Theater. This year’s lecture is titled “Prayer, Suffering and Self-Presence.”

 

Smith Gilson received her Ph.D. in philosophy from the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce in Rome, and she is currently an associate professor of philosophy at the University of the Holy Cross in New Orleans.

 

She is the author of four books, The Metaphysical Presuppositions of Being-in-the-World, The Philosophical Question of Christ, The Political Dialogue of Nature and Grace and her most recent, Immediacy and Meaning: J.K. Huysmans and the Immemorial Origin of Metaphysics (Bloomsbury, 2017).

 

Professor Smith Gilson is a member of the UK Centre of Theology and Philosophy and the American Maritain Association.

 

The Thomas Lecture is made possible by an endowment established in honor of the late George and Mary Thomas and the late Fr. Kieran Conley, OSB. The lecture provides an opportunity for students and faculty at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology to explore issues in philosophy and theology.
