Knights Council Honors Father John Boeglin

The Jasper Knights of Columbus have announced that Father John Boeglin is the 2018 Ron Seger Memorial Insured Member of the Year, Father Boeglin is pastor of Holy Family Parish in Jasper and serves as Rural Life Director for the Diocese of Evansville. Father Boeglin received his honor on March 17at the Council's Founder's Day Insured Member Appreciation Dinner.

Father Boeglin became a Knight in 1969. He came to Dubois County in 1987, and became Chaplain of the Jasper Council in 2009. Father Boeglin has been instrumental in helping the Knights revive the annual Priest and Religious Appreciation Dinner, held annually in October.  In September, Father Boeglin will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his priestly ordination.  

The Seger award is given annually in honor of Ron Seger, who died in 2014 – two weeks after becoming Grand Knight of Council #1584. Recipients are men who have gone above and beyond the normal call of duty in their service to the Church, thecouncil the community and their fellow man. Previous recipients include Steve Luegers, Tim Erny, and Don Dewig.

Founded in 1882 by the Venerable Father Michael McGivney to render financial aid to Catholic families, the Knights of Columbus is now the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, with nearly 2 million members.  The Knights stand for charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.  Annually, the order donates more than $170 million and countless volunteer hours to charitable efforts. There are more than 1,700 knights in five different councils serving the Church and communities in Dubois County.
