Good Shepherd School presents awards, scholarships

Congratulations to the following Good Shepherd School students and alumni receiving annual awards and scholarships:

Memorial High School graduate Maria Sermersheim, daughter of Keith and Connie Sermersheim, received the Mary F. Thomas Achievement Award, established in honor of the fourth principal of Good Shepherd Catholic School.

Good Shepherd graduating eighth-grader Emily Rexing, daughter of Jerry and Kelly Rexing, received the Mary F. Thomas Humanitarian Award. Junior high teachers establish the winner by rating each of the eighth graders on politeness and manners, religious participation, general attitude and service to others.

Graduating eighth grader Averi Anslinger, daughter of Ryan and Rebecca Anslinger, received the Mary F. Thomas Scholastic Award, presented to the eighth grader with the highest grade average.

Each of these students received a certificate and a monetary award, as well as having their names added to the plaques in the school foyer.

Sophia Kleiman, daughter of Kent and Shelly Kleiman and Isaac Robertson, son of Michael and Karen Robertson, accepted Serra Club Awards. This award recognizes eighth-grade students who lead exemplary Christian lives: students who are Catholic leaders among their peers and an inspiration to adult leaders.

Alejandro Velasco, son of Jorge and Patricia Velasco, received the Judy VanHoosier Memorial High School Scholarship, established by the Knights of Columbus of Good Shepherd Catholic Parish to commemorate the former principal’s retirement.  The candidate must exemplify religious character, service to others and academic excellence.
