Diocesan Schools Kick Off Leader In Me Program

The Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Evansville held a press conference on Aug. 1 to discuss the Leader in Me training that faculty and staff from 13 diocesan schools began during June and July.  

    In January of 2018, the Koch Foundation announced the Culture of Excellence Grants program to benefit Catholic parish schools located within southwestern Indiana and Henderson County, Ky.

    In May, 13 Diocese of Evansville Catholic schools who received grant money presented a proposal in May, requesting that their grants be pooled to fund implementation of the Leader in Me program for their campuses. Inspired by Stephen R. Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” Leader in Me is a comprehensive k-12 school-improvement model that equips students with essential leadership and life-readiness skills. The model impacts leadership, culture and academics.

    Throughout the summer, 302 faculty and staff members from the schools have received professional-development training focusing on implementation of “Leader in Me” as part of year one of the three-year implementation process. They received 7 Habits Signature 4.0 training, and Launching Leadership/Creating Culture training. Year two professional development focuses on Aligning Academics training. Year three training focuses on Empowering Instruction. Each school also will have a Leader in Me coach to mentor key school leaders, and to provide ongoing support and resources.

·      St. John the Baptist Catholic School, Newburgh

·      St. Joseph Catholic School, Vanderburgh County

·      Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Haubstadt

·      St. Philip Catholic School, Posey County

·      St. Wendel Catholic School, St. Wendel
