New pope,

new times,

our challenge!

“In honor of the election of Pope Francis, our St. Benedict Cathedral School and Religious Education students will focus their attention to celebrate our newly elected Catholic Church leader in a special way,” writes Marty Horning, DRE.

“Our students will participate in daily class prayer for our pope and in almsgiving toward helping the poor for which Pope Francis is an avid advocate. He challenges all of us to join him in support of the needy.

“Our students will reach out to those in need by honoring our pope in his own quest to support and embrace the less fortunate. We will be collecting canned goods and food items to be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

“A prayer card will be going home to each school and religious education family to pray within our homes for the health, happiness and guidance of the Holy Spirit as Pope Francis shepherds the faithful of the world.

“Please take time to pray as a family for our newly elected Pope as his job will not be an easy task.”

The parish community is invited to join the students in donating canned goods and food items to support the local St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

“Let’s make this a huge success -- not for us but, rather, for the individuals and families who are in need of their next meal.”
